Highlight (11 January 2012)
The DFG has granted us 171 kEUR to investigate the magnetic properties of quinone-based photoswitchable molecular magnets, synthesized in the group of Dr. Biprajit Sarkar.
Highlight (29 August 2011)
We have now obtained EUR 500k to purchase and set up two spectrometers. The magnetic circular dichroism spectrometer will operate in the range of 200-1500 nm, temperatures down to 1.6K and fields up to 10T. The broadband high-frequency EPR spectrometer will operate at frequencies 100-1000 GHz, fields up to 16T and temperatures down to 1.6K.
Highlight (26 July 2011)
We have studied the magnetic properties of a hybrid material consisting of Mn12 single-molecule magnets inside graphitized multiwall carbon nanotubes prepared in the group of Dr Andrei Khlobystov of the University of Nottingham. These results have now been published in Nature Communications.
Highlight (17 April 2011)
We have studied the magnetic properties of a fascinating dinuclear arene-bridged uranium single-molecule magnet prepared in the group of Dr Stephen Liddle of the University of Nottingham. These results have now been published in Nature Chemistry.
